Our team recently had the honor of meeting Holden Ringer, who is in the midst of walking from Washington State to Washington, D.C. - and beyond - in support of our partners at America Walks.
In March 2023, Ringer departed La Push, Washington, bound for Washington, D.C. He dubbed his effort Walk2Washington.
According to a recently story article by The Washington Post, Ringer "is passionate about creating more pedestrian-friendly communities, especially after seeing drivers on their phones while he was walking along highways."
"So much of the work that happens in terms of making walkability part of the conversation and just improving walkable spaces in our cities, communities and states happens at the local and the state level, so what I've been doing over the course of this walk is meeting with these local advocates and learning about what they're doing," Ringer says.
While in Durham, North Carolina, he met with our local partners at Bike Durham and spent time with Sean Egan, director of Durham’s transportation department, on the Greenway.
From D.C., Ringer plans to follow the East Coast Greenway route to his planned finish in New Haven, Connecticut.
