East Coast Greenway Alliance Executive Director Dennis Markatos-Soriano shared the vision for the East Coast Greenway with a global audience at last month’s World Trails Conference, held Sept. 26-30 in Skiathos, Greece.
“It was an honor to speak at the World Trails Conference in my grandparents’ native Greece, sharing remarkable East Coast Greenway progress and forging alliances with trail and climate leaders from around the world,” Markatos-Soriano said.
He was part of an international “Trails & Cities” panel, which focused on the importance of urban trails such as the East Coast Greenway, which connects 450 communities throughout the United States’ most populous corridor.
Hosted by the World Trails Network, the event “is a global gathering of trail experts, trail managers and builders, trail destinations, enthusiasts and academics, who meet every two years to share knowledge, network and ensure the benefits trails offer society continue to be sustainable and supported around the world.”
"It was great to meet with active transportation leaders from across the globe. People worldwide are excited to explore from the moose to the manatee and enjoy the beautiful trails we are building together," Markatos-Soriano said.
