New England [caption id="attachment_6415" align="alignleft" width="197"]USBR1xEast Coast Greenway Sign Photo: Bob Rand[/caption] This summer the Maine Department of Transportation (Maine DOT) began the process of installing ECG signs on 350 miles of our Maine River Route from Calais to Kittery. To date, 55 miles of signs have been installed, making it easier for ECG users to follow the route and elevating the ECGA’s profile throughout Vacationland. The ECG signs are being installed in combination with the US Bike Route 1 (USBR1) system which overlaps with the ECG route throughout most of the state. ECG signs will be co-located with USBR1. You may notice a little something extra special in the new arrow designs. Thanks to feedback we’ve received from many of you, our directional arrows now have a thick black outline to create contrast and make them more visible from further distances. Thank you to all our partners in Maine including Maine DOT, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, the Quimby Family Foundation, the Maine Community Foundation and an anonymous and very generous donor. Maine DOT hopes to have the entire route signed by Memorial Day 2016. We look forward to celebrating this major milestone once the project is complete.
