They may not know that it's part of the East Coast Greenway, but most cyclists in New York City love the stretch of bike and walking path that travels up the banks of the Hudson River, on the western side of Manhattan, from Battery Park at the southern tip almost to the island's northern tip.
"I took this photo from my apartment window," Jerry Rosen says of his shot, a co-winner for November. "My wife and I live in northern Manhattan, in Washington Heights, and we are fortunate to have such a lovely view of the Hudson River, George Washington Bridge, and, of course, the Greenway."
Rosen, a "mostly retired" psychologist, moved to New York City 11 years ago. The striking view is not the only advantage of his apartment, he says. A recreational cyclist, he uses the Greenway year-round. "The entrance to the Greenway is only a quarter mile away," he says. "I ride along the Hudson River most days."
In addition to cycling, Rosen and his wife enjoy much of what the city has to offer, including theater, museums, movies, and birding in Central Park. A serious amateur photographer in his twenties and thirties, he has recently returned to the hobby.
