"Greenways stimulate intentional development," says Martin County, Florida, resident Lynda Smith, who cites the example of opening a cafe on the Greenway to create a space for people to connect over coffee or ice cream. 

Locally, the East Coast Greenway is connecting communities, expanding safe and active transportation options and driving local economic growth, including the opening of Village Bike in Hobe Sound. 

Dawn Arvin, owner of Village Bike, strategically chose the location of her shop due to its location on the East Coast Greenway route. "I also purchased my house before the path was built because I knew it was coming," Arvin said. "It's that important to me."
