The East Coast Greenway Alliance is seeking applications and nominations for the first Roger Herz Greenway and Active Mobility Award, which will honor longtime New York City bicycle advocate Roger Herz. The inaugural award will be presented to someone who has made a significant impact in New York City for greenways and/or active mobility.
The application period is now closed for 2024.
The deadline to apply was August 23, 2024. The winner will be announced and honored in New York City on Saturday September 21, 2024. The winner will be honored with public recognition and a $1,000 cash award. Self-nominations are encouraged.
Process for and criteria selecting the winner:
"Herz bought his first bicycle during the transit strike of 1966 and commuted by bike for decades. He was one of the original five co-founders of Transportation Alternatives in 1973 — and he stuck with bicycle activism even as the others moved on. His focus was apparent from the names of the two letterheads he used for most correspondence: “To Improve Municipal Efficiency” (TIME) and “Bicycle Transportation Action.”
