Why This Is A Priority

The St. Marys Tabby Trail will link historic downtown St. Marys with the Kings Bay Naval Base and Crooked River State Park, providing access to nature and local historical sites like the McIntosh Sugar Mill Ruins.

Georgia Grant Secured

March 2024: City of St. Marys and local trail advocates are successful in securing a $1.7 million Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Grant to fund construction of a four mile extension of the Tabby Trail.

Construction Underway

2025-2026: project under design and construction, estimated completion in 2026.

Concept Plan and Public Engagement

Develop a framework outlining preliminary recommendations for the trail concept plan and initiate a second round of focus group meetings and public workshops to gather feedback.

Future Connections

2026 and beyond: City of St. Marys is actively pursuing funding to restore ferry service to Fernandina Beach, critical for the East Coast Greenway’s routing through St. Marys.

Construction of the Tabby Trail and future projects in Camden County like the Winding Road Connector trail bolster the case for restoration of the St. Marys- Fernandina Beach, Florida, ferry. At present, the East Coast Greenway route must bypass St. Marys because of the lack of ferry connection.
