More than 100 cyclists will experience the natural beauty and rich history of eastern Connecticut at the third annual Ride the East: Connecticut, hosted by the East Coast Greenway Alliance and Trust for Public Land on Saturday.

This supported group ride showcases the Air Line Trail and Hop River State Park Trail, two stunning segments of the East Coast Greenway, the developing 3,000-mile route connecting Maine to Florida.

Riders can choose to pedal with a group leader or at their own pace and for as long as they would like — up to 40 miles round trip. Along the way, participants will encounter historic landmarks, scenic vistas and notable geological features that make these trails a regional treasure.

Registration is still open for just $25 — supporting the East Coast Greenway Alliance and Trust for Public Land.

The ride begins and ends at the Jillson House Museum in Willimantic (627 Main Street), with check-in starting at 7:30 a.m. Free parking is available at 1 Jillson Square. The final turnaround point is at Talcottville in Vernon.

“Ride the East is a celebration of community, history and the incredible trail networks that make outdoor adventures accessible to everyone," said Bruce Donald, Southern Connecticut Manager for the East Coast Greenway Alliance. "We’re proud to partner with Trust for Public Land to welcome riders of all levels to explore these beautiful greenway trails in support of the continued growth of safe, connected biking and walking routes across Connecticut and the entire East Coast.”

The trail surface is crushed stone dust, suitable for bikes with wider tires. Support staff will be stationed along the route, with restrooms, water, snacks, and a SAG (support and gear) vehicle available at key turnaround points. All ride support concludes at 4 p.m.

Ride the East: Connecticut is proudly presented by the East Coast Greenway Alliance and Trust for Public Land, with generous support from the Jillson House Museum and Hop River Trail Alliance.
