About the Capital Region East Coast Greenway Study
The Capital Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) received a CTDOT grant of $630,000 to study the remaining gaps in existing trails connecting Hartford, the capital of Connecticut. CRCOG, through the lead consultant, FHI Studio, spent two years creating recommendations for the 12-mile gap completing multi-use trail connections to Hartford:
- Simsbury/Tariffville includes a bridge over the Farmington River (Hartford Connector)
- Bloomfield down the Griffin Line RR corridor, then two options to Hartford
- Hartford – two options: through Keney Park to Riverfront Recapture’s Riverwalk Trail or Griffin Line rail-with-trail south into downtown Hartford
- East Hartford completes the Charter Oak Trail generally along the I-84 corridor
