A People-Powered Connection

Imagine a safe, connected place where people of all ages and abilities can walk, bike, roll, run or ride for everyday travel or pure enjoyment. On the East Coast Greenway, your daily commute might include neighbors, visitors from the next state or travelers exploring the length of the East Coast.

The East Coast Greenway is a nationally connected, locally rooted trail system linking 15 states and more than 450 communities. It strengthens local economies and transforms daily mobility and outdoor recreation by promoting healthy, sustainable transportation and deeper connections to community and nature across the Eastern Seaboard.

Founded in 1991, the nonprofit East Coast Greenway Alliance leads the development of this 3,000-mile route from Maine to Florida. Working from early planning through ribbon cuttings, the Alliance partners with communities to secure funding, share trail-building expertise and connect efforts across city, county and state lines — turning bold visions into completed Greenway miles.

The Greenway at a Glance

Directional signs.

Connecting the nation’s most populated corridor.

It’s a bold, ambitious vision: 3,000 miles of protected greenway — not to mention another 1,000 miles of our complementary route. Annually, the East Coast Greenway hosted 50 million bike rides, runs and walks, ranking as the most popular park in America.

Map.

Connecting people.

From the start, our founders designed the Greenway to go where people live, so the route travels through 25 cities — 450 communities in all — and connects locals and visitors as they walk, run, bike, skate and more.

Heart.

An investment in a healthy future.

The Greenway is good for business, good for public health and good for transportation infrastructure. Together with our partnering communities, we’re creating a linear park that everyone can enjoy for generations to come.
