Metropolitan Branch Trail East Extension

MBT East Extension Map

Why This Is A Priority

The Metropolitan Branch Trail East Extension will close a major gap in the East Coast Greenway complementary route in Washington, D.C., by connecting the Metropolitan Branch Trail to the Anacostia River Trail. This priority project links the Fort Totten Metro station on the MBT to the Prince George’s Connector Trail at Avondale Community Park in Maryland.

Federal Funding Secured

Prince George’s County, Maryland, has stepped up to secure funding for the Prince George’s County Connector through a RAISE grant.

Local Support

This project is supported by Councilmember Zachary Parker and the District Department of Transportation. The National Park Service lists this key connection on its planning maps.

This project will provide better connections to DC through Maryland for many District residents, as the ART provides direct access to six key areas — Anacostia Park, Nationals Park and Audi Field, Navy Yard and Wharf neighborhoods, as well as Capitol Hill.

About the Metropolitan Branch Trail East Extension

Heading east from Fort Totten, the Metropolitan Branch Trail East Extension would serve as an east/west route along Galloway and Gallatin Streets NE to DC’s northeast border with Maryland. Here, the segment would connect with the planned Prince George’s County Connector through Avondale Park.
