Maine Greenway Map

Welcome to Maine

The East Coast Greenway begins its journey in Calais, Maine, at the Canadian border. The route through Maine continues south and west through coastal communities, historic mill towns and Downeast blueberry barrens. The 87-mile Down East Sunrise Trail is the longest continuous stretch of the Greenway to date. From Brunswick, northbound travelers can select our complementary 150-mile coastal route, which heads through Camden and Rockland, or the spine route, which continues through Augusta and Bangor, both converging near Ellsworth.

Progress Update

Momentum is building across Maine’s trail network. The Eastern Trail is moving forward with a recently completed feasibility study and ongoing design and construction on the “Close the Gap” and “Blaze the Trail South” segments. In Portland, several projects in design will connect to the Casco Bay Trail, where 25 miles of rail corridor have been approved for interim trail toward Auburn. Yarmouth continues advancing the Beth Condon Trail toward Freeport, while the Merrymeeting Trail has secured approval for 33 miles of interim trail toward Augusta. The Androscoggin to Kennebec (A2K) Trail is progressing through feasibility and strengthening connections from Brunswick to the Coastal Alternate route. Farther east, the Down East Sunrise Trail has been approved for a 12-mile interim trail extension toward Calais, alongside an ongoing study to improve surfacing on the existing 85-mile trail.
